Short Family History:

The biggest reason the Wagner family gets its own page is because of the magnitude of people it encompasses. Barbara Anna (Wagner) Delfelder was born in Saxe Weimar (Saxony) Germany and came to the US about 1850 with her parents John and Mary (Gliem or Gleim) Wagner. Also immigrating at the same time were four of Mary's siblings and their families for a total of about 30 people. They only lost one child to illness along the way.

The families made their way up the Mississippi (and other rivers) to land at Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in that area until 1857 when most of the families purchased land near Arrington, Kansas in Atchison County. In the late 1800s, the names Wagner and Gliem were well known in the Atchison County farming community. Barbara Anna had dozen's of first cousins in and around that area and there are still many of their descendants there today.

Research Notes:

There's still quite a bit of research to do here. I'm not sure when I will actually get around to doing this, but at some point it would be nice to find the actual immigration records. Of the dozens of family members born in Germany and who died in the US, only one obituary that I've seen lists a hometown... Isnacht in Saxe Weimar. Verifying a hometown would be nice.

Surname variations:

Wagner - none that I'm aware of
Gliem, Gleim - Gliem seems to be the most common spelling, although I frequently see it spelled the other way.
