Short Family History:
Joseph & Margaret (Michaelis) Eagan

Joseph Eagan's origin is mysterious. No solid date of birth or place or birth has ever been determined. He may have been born in Ohio to Irish parents, or born in Ireland and brought to the US as a small child. He eventually made his way to Kansas where he married Margaret Michaelis.

Margaret was part of a large Catholic family. Her father, Henri, immigrated from Luxembourg in 1847 and settled in Indianapolis, IN. Several of Henri's siblings immigrated as well. In 1869, Henri, Margaret and her siblings moved to a farm near Newbury, Kansas.

Joseph and Margaret had 4 children surviving to adulthood and their descendants have settled in Topeka, Kansas City and near Seattle. There are still hundreds of descendants of Henri living in Wabaunsee County, Kansas and in Indianapolis, IN.

There are other photos from the family in the family tree pages (links above).

Research Notes:

My research on these families is essentially completed. In the fall of 2003, I compiled a book about the descendants of Joseph and Margaret. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the book, please contact me.

There are still a few items on my to-do-list to complete... I've never been able to track down anyone on one branch of this family. Also, I'd like to find a death register record for Joseph from a Catholic Church in Denver.

Without a doubt, I'd like to secure a date and place of birth for Joseph and get information on his parents and try to determine if he had any siblings. - MD 11Nov2003
