"Uncle Conrad" as I like to call him was born in Germany
about 1821. He was in the US by 1850 and was unmarried and living
in New York City.
We think it's likely that Conrad and his wife Elizabeth
both died in the late 1860s in NYC, although exact dates of death
have not been found. Both of their sons, William (age 9) and John
Henry (age 8), were listed in an "asylum" (probably an orphanage)
in the 1870 Federal Census.
John Henry married and moved to Cayuga County, New
York where he was a prosperous farmer.
